This gene is composed of 8 exons. The protein produced forms the delta portion of a tetrameric sarcoglycan complex. This sarcoglycan complex associates with cytoplasmic proteins dystrophin and syntrophin, making up the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC). Mutations in this gene are associated with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).
