Specific Site Analysis

Specific Site Analysis (SSA) is a technique that focuses on a specific region(s) of DNA within a gene to sequence, typically to determine the presence or absence of a known familial gene mutation.

Introduction

Specific Site Analysis (SSA) is a technique that focuses on a specific region(s) of DNA within a gene to sequence, typically to determine the presence or absence of a known familial gene mutation.

Gene sequencing determines the exact order of nucleotides (adenine, guanine, cytosine, thymine) that together make up a strand of DNA. This corresponds to the specific gene being analyzed. If a particular mutation in a gene is known to be in a family or in a population, SSA targets gene sequencing to determine whether or not the mutation is present in the relevant region of the gene.

At Ambry, SSA is offered for many genes. The specific region(s) of DNA is/are amplified by PCR and sequenced. Custom SSA is also available. Please visit the relevant test webpage or here to look up SSA testing we offer for the disease/gene you may be interested in. You may also contact us directly at 1-866-262-7943.
