•Of individuals with kidney cancer who had multi-gene panel testing, 6.1% were positive for a mutation. FLCN and FH were the most common genes mutated.
•Early age of kidney cancer onset was the only factor found to be predictive of a having a mutation by multivariate analysis (OR 0.975, 95% p=0.0052).
•Our results support the use of early age of onset as an indicator for genetic counseling and/or testing.
