Genetic Testing FAQs

Answers to Common Questions

A blood or saliva sample from you (or your family member) is needed for testing, using a special collection kit from your healthcare provider. Then, the kit is shipped overnight to Ambry Genetics for processing.

Test results go directly to your healthcare provider, not to you. They will contact you to review the results and discuss what they mean. Be sure to ask your healthcare provider about their process and timeline for sharing results with you.

Ambry Genetics follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) to protect your personal health information. You can learn more about HIPAA protections at HHS.gov.

Check with your healthcare provider first, to see if results are available in their system. If your healthcare provider has not received them, ask them to contact Ambry’s Client Services.

Each healthcare provider has different ways and timelines for sharing results. Ask yours how and when they’ll contact you, the usual timeline, and how they may schedule follow-up appointements to discuss results.
