In this presentation, the current status of pancreatic incidence and mortality will be reviewed. The impact of germline testing on understanding pancreatic cancer risk will be discussed, along with the following areas of research advances: Biomarker testing,

AI and imaging, Identification of missing heritability using long read sequencing and Multi-modal data integration for risk calculation .

Three learning objectives:  

  1. Describe the current status of pancreatic cancer incidence and mortality in the US. 
  2. Discuss the impact of germline genetic testing on understanding pancreatic cancer risk, and the role of long read sequencing in advancing knowledge about heritability of pancreatic cancer.
  3. Describe the role of imaging and biomarker testing in pancreatic cancer early detection.  

Only the live session qualifies for CEUs but, when possible, we host the recordings on our website and NSGC recommends participants to use their personal email instead of work email addresses to ensure they receive their CEU certificates.

Diane Simeone, MD, is Director of Moores Cancer Center at UC San Diego Health and holds the Koman Family Presidential Director’s Chair. An internationally recognized pancreatic surgeon-scientist, she leads the Cancer Center’s research, clinical, and strategic initiatives and serves as principal investigator of its National Cancer Institute Cancer Center Support Grant. Dr. Simeone is a national leader in pancreatic cancer research and clinical innovation, serving as principal investigator of Precision Promise, a groundbreaking clinical trials consortium, and founding the Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Consortium. A member of the National Academy of Medicine, she has held numerous leadership roles in oncology and surgery and is dedicated to advancing early detection and more effective treatments for pancreatic cancer.

Amanda is a Genomic Science Liaison at Ambry Genetics, where her work focuses on providing clinical and technical genetic testing education to healthcare providers across the Midwest. She earned her MS in Genetic Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling. Prior to joining Ambry, she practiced as a clinical genetic counselor at the Froedtert & MCW Clinical Cancer Center. Amanda also mentors future counselors as Adjunct Faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin and previously served as President of the Wisconsin Genetic Counselors Association.
