Selecting a Test for Your Patient (DTC vs. Single Gene vs. Panel vs. Exome) with Stephany Connor, MS & Johanna Schmidt, MPH, MGC, LCGC

  • As direct-to-consumer (DTC) genetic testing grows in popularity with the public, more people are bringing their results to their medical providers. Whether it be curiosity, concern, or even panic, patients may have questions about what their results mean for their health. In some cases, DTC genetic testing can provide clinically relevant results, but generally, DTC genetic testing results may not be not sufficient or appropriate for making health risk assessments. Additional testing may be warranted.  In this webinar, we will review the technical differences between common DTC testing and clinical diagnostic genetic testing and will explore the circumstances in which each is appropriate. We will review some clinical scenarios and discuss how to advise patients who are interested in DTC testing or who have test results to review.
