Genetic Test Design: Developing and Curating for Maximized Clinical Utility

Genetic testing development and design is a complex multi-step process. Each step in the process has decision points that can impact how clinicians and patients use the test and results and can also impact how the test is integrated into lab operations. This presentation will introduce the elements of genetic testing design and will give the attendee a framework of how to critically evaluate genetic testing offerings.

Devon received her MS in Genetic Counseling from Case Western Reserve University. Devon received her MS in Genetic Counseling from Case Western Reserve University. Prior to joining Ambry, she was in clinical practice and also worked as a laboratory genetic counselor at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. During her 9 years here, she was active in teaching laboratory technical staff, ABMG laboratory fellows, medical genetics residents, and rotating students. Additionally, Devon acquired an interest and experience in laboratory test development efforts. Product development has been Devon’s primary focus since joining Ambry in 2015. As a Senior Genomic Specialist, she contributed to clinical test designs, gene content curation, laboratory systems validations, and was pivotal in the development of the CARE ProgramⓇ. In her current role as Associate Director of Product Development, Devon’s work is highly cross-functional, collaborating with teams across Ambry to evaluate product concepts and their feasibility focusing on assay development and product content. She continues to have a special interest in clinical implementation of genetic technologies in the lab.
