Optimizing the EHR for Genetic Counselor Workflows: Risk Assessments, Orders/Results, and Care Pathways with Chelsea Menke, MS, LCGC and Karen Wernke, MS, CGC

  • Participants will learn how genetic counselors at a large midwestern hospital (TriHealth) utilize integration in the EHR to streamline workflows and improve patient care. Topics will include: use of a cancer risk assessment to better identify high-risk patients, integrating genetic testing orders to save time and make finding results easier, use of genomic indicators to better track patient outcomes, and a step-by-step guide of how to implement these programs at your institution.

CARE Program Project Specialist

Chelsea Menke is the CARE Program Project Specialist and a cancer genetic counselor at TriHealth in Cincinnati, OH. She received her Master of Science in Medical Genetics from the University of Cincinnati in 2019 and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Miami University in 2013. Chelsea has spent her career specializing in oncology genetic counseling. Her professional interests include improving access to genetic testing, providing education about genetic counseling/testing to providers and the general public, and implementing genomic medicine tools into care delivery.

Clinical Oncology Genetic Counselor

Karen Wernke has been with the TriHealth Precision Medicine team as a clinical oncology genetic counselor since 2018, following her graduation from the Emory University School of Medicine Genetic Counseling training program. In her role at TriHealth, she established the universal breast cancer genetic testing process and helped lead the development and maintenance of the germline cancer genomic indicator content in Epic.

Genomic Science Liaison II, Ambry Genetics

Frankie is an Oncology Genomic Science Liaison at Ambry Genetics. Frankie previously worked as a genetic counselor in a general genetics clinic in Orlando, Florida. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from North Carolina State University. She earned her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, and is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
