Session # MP33-15

Gender disparity: Overlooking hereditary prostate cancer and implications for urology practice.

  • 14.2% of men with prostate cancer were positive for a mutation, which is significantly more than women with breast cancer who had testing (8.6%).
  • 94% of mutations identified were in genes that would impact management recommendations for the patient and/or their family.
  • About half of mutation positive men had a 2nd cancer after prostate cancer which may have been preventable or detected earlier with knowledge of genetic test results.
